Browlift (Forehead Lift)

A browlift or forehead lift is performed to elevate a low or sagging brow. It also helps to reduce deep lines which may appear on the forehead creating an angry or tired appearance. Dr. Cobbins performs this procedure by placing incisions behind the hairline, and elevating the skin and muscles of the forehead to a more desirable location. Many techniques are utilized for this procedure. During your consultation with Dr. Cobbins, each option will be discussed as well as your expectations and goals. Dr. Cobbins often performs browlift in conjunction with other facial procedures such as facelift and blepharoplasty. Depending on your anatomy and individual needs, we will propose a personalized plan to determine the best approach to create an excellent result for you.

Rhinoplasty (Nose Surgery)

Nose Surgery | Rhinoplasty | Browlift | Rochester Rhinoplasty, or nose surgery, is one of the most common plastic surgery procedures performed today. It can reshape, reduce or augment a person’s nose to achieve facial harmony. It may be performed as a reconstructive procedure to correct a nasal birth defect or an injury such as a broken nose. Rhinoplasty is also utilized for functional rather than cosmetic reasons. Combining nose reshaping with septoplasty can effectively treat certain breathing problems, such as those caused by a deviated septum.

Having a rhinoplasty is an excellent way to achieve balance between the size of the nose and other facial features. It can modify the width of the nose at the bridge to make it smaller, improve your nasal profile by removing bony humps or depressions, contour a nasal tip that is too large, boxy, drooping or upturned, alter the angle between the nose and the mouth, narrow and reshape the nostrils as well as correct asymmetry or deviation.

Dr. Cobbins performs both open and closed rhinoplasty. In an open rhinoplasty, the incision is made across the columella, the tissue between the nostrils, to access the relevant structures. In a closed technique, Dr. Cobbins only makes the incisions within the nostrils. With both methods, Dr. Cobbins gently lifts the soft tissues covering the nose to sculpt the bone and cartilage to the desired shape. Any additional cartilage needed to augment the nose can often be taken from the septum. Dr. Cobbins performs rhinoplasty surgery under general anesthesia or IV sedation, usually in an outpatient surgery setting. During your consultation, Dr. Cobbins will discuss all of your available options.

Septoplasty

Septoplasty is a surgical procedure to correct defects or deformities of the septum. The nasal septum is a bony and cartilaginous structure that separates the nostrils. The nasal septum has three functions, which are to help support the nose, assist in regulation of air flow, and support the mucous membranes of the nose. A number of medical conditions may indicate a need for septoplasty, including nasal airway obstruction and a deviated septum. Additionally, a septoplasty may be performed in conjunction with a rhinoplasty. Dr. Cobbins performs septoplasty procedures on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia or IV sedation. During your consultation, Dr. Cobbins will examine the internal and external structures of your nose, and discuss all of the options available to you. In some cases, insurance plans cover septoplasty. Our office will assist you in determining your medical insurance policy coverage for septoplasty.

Scar Revision

Scars are by definition permanent, but surgery can narrow, fade and otherwise reduce the appearance of severe or unattractive scarring, which is especially helpful in areas of cosmetic importance such as the face. Scar revision is performed to reduce the appearance of scars caused by injury or previous surgery. Heavy earrings, which pull thru the earlobe, can also be repaired thru scar revision. There are many surgical methods of scar revision, only some of which may be appropriate for a particular type of scar or its location. These include surgical excision, skin grafts, flap surgery and Z-plasty (repositioning a scar so that it aligns with the face and is less noticeable). The effectiveness of scar reduction depends on a number of factors, including the nature of the injury, your body’s healing mechanism, the size and depth of the wound, how much blood supplies the area and the thickness and color of your skin. In select cases, insurance plans cover scar revision. Our office will assist you in determining your medical insurance policy coverage for this procedure.
